Perimenopause doesn’t always announce itself with hot flashes first — often the early signs are more subtle, but they can feel unsettling when you don’t know what’s going on. Here are some clues your body might be on the rollercoaster of perimenaopsue:
~ Mood swings with random bursts of anger
Hormonal fluctuations (especially estrogen + progesterone dips) can throw off your neurotransmitters, making emotions feel like they’re on a rollercoaster.
~️ Brain fog
Estrogen plays a big role in memory and focus — when it fluctuates, it can feel harder to concentrate or find the right words.
~ Cycle fluctuations
Your period might get shorter, longer, heavier, lighter, or arrive unpredictably as ovulation becomes less consistent.
~ Sleep disturbances
Lowering levels of progesterone can disrupt GABA, melatonin and cortisol balance, making it harder to fall asleep or stay asleep.
~ Ovulation pain when you haven’t experienced it before
Histamine levels often increased due to worsened oestrogen spikes, making symptoms like ovulation pain worse.
~ Migraines, especially premenstrually
Shifts in oestrogen and histamine can trigger vascular changes, leading to migraines right before your period or at ovulation.
~ Libido changes
Lower oestrogen and testosterone can alter vaginal tissue health and desire — sometimes dropping libido, sometimes unexpectedly boosting it.
If you want to make your perimenopause journey smoother, it starts with understanding your cycle health and supporting your body’s foundations — especially your adrenals and blood sugar balance.

Blood sugar isn’t just about energy - it’s one of

Blood sugar isn’t just about energy - it’s one of the biggest players in hormone health, stress, and even fertility.
In this video I go over how blood sugar level (BSL) balance is important for our nervous system but here’s a quick overview:
👉 When you eat, your pancreas releases insulin, moving glucose into your cells for fuel or storing it in the liver as glycogen.
👉 When blood sugar dips too low, your body sees this as stress and releases cortisol, which tells the pancreas to release glucagon, which signals the liver to release stored glycogen for energy.
But here’s where things get messy…
⚡ Low blood sugar = cortisol spike (your main stress hormone). Too much of this causes HPA axis dysfunction.
⚡ High stress = higher blood sugar
⚡ Chronically or wobbly blood sugar = insulin resistance → which disrupts your HPO axis (the brain-ovary connection), throwing off your repro hormones
⚡️chronic HPA axis dysfunction and dysautonomia can cause issues with glucagon response being blunted, leading to fatigue
This cycle can look like: irregular cycles, perimenopause struggles, PMS, fertility challenges, fatigue, and even burnout. Over time, stress + insulin resistance can even blunt glucagon response, leaving you stuck in long stretches of low energy & imbalance.
The good news? You can break the cycle with simple shifts:
1️⃣ Protein-rich breakfast → sets up stable energy for the day
2️⃣ Walk after meals → even a small walk helps stabilise your BSL
3️⃣ Slow down + manage stress → given how intricately the nervous system and BSL are connected, stress has to be considered if you ever want to break the cycle.
